Govt to hold state funeral for former First Lady Nana Konadu on Nov. 28

The Government has announced that a state funeral will be held in honour of the late former First Lady, Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, on Friday, November 28, 2025.

The ceremony, to be held at the Independence Square in Accra, will take place under the auspices of President John Dramani Mahama.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency and signed by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the state funeral is in recognition of Mrs. Rawlings’ invaluable contributions to the advancement of women’s and children’s rights, as well as her dedicated service to national development.

Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was widely celebrated for her advocacy on gender equality and social empowerment, particularly through the 31st December Women’s Movement, which she founded.

Details of the funeral arrangements are expected to be communicated in due course.
