Popular Ghanaian actress and television presenter Nana Ama McBrown has confirmed that she is divorced from her husband of twelve years, Maxwell Mensah, describing the separation as mutual, peaceful and free of bitterness.
McBrown made the disclosure on TV3’s New Day, where she said both parties reached the decision after honest conversations and remain on good terms.
Prior to her announcement, rumours had circulated suggesting the couple was facing marital challenges, with some reports alleging extra-marital affairs as a contributing factor to the separation.
“I’m the happiest right now. I have gone through divorce, and I am not ashamed to say it. I did it beautifully,” she stated, adding that she still maintains regular communication with her former husband and visits his family.
According to the multi-talented showbiz personality, the marriage ended after both she and Mensah acknowledged they were emotionally exhausted and agreed it was best to move on.
“We were tired. We sat down, talked about it and decided to move on. We are the best of friends,” she said.
McBrown stressed that her former husband and in-laws wanted her to remain in the marriage, but she felt unable to continue despite still having affection for him.
“He is a correct guy. I still feel him, but I got tired of the marriage,” she explained.
She further revealed that the marriage was contracted under customary law, meaning the separation only required the involvement and consent of both families.
The actress noted that the greatest joy from the marriage is the daughter she shares with Mensah, describing the child as a priceless gift.
“I will not marry again. I can give birth again, but I won’t marry again,” she said, while encouraging the public to applaud celebrities who are able to sustain long-term marriages.
“I have married for 12 years. When you see celebrities who have married for 12 years, applaud them,” she added.
