The final funeral rites for Ghanaian Highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba, will now take place on December 13, 2025.
This new date was issued by the Asantehene’s Traditional Council after addressing a dispute within the musician’s family. The funeral was initially announced for December 6, 2025, but disagreements over planning and decision-making led to a formal summons before the Saamanhene.
Daddy Lumba’s elder sister, Ernestina Fosuh, accused the family head, Kofi Owusu, of excluding her from key funeral arrangements and making decisions without broader family consultation. She invoked Otumfuo’s Great Oath (Ntam Kɛseɛ), compelling both parties to appear before the Traditional Council on Monday, November 10, 2025.
Following the hearing, the Council dissolved the existing funeral committee and instructed Ernestina to investigate concerns relating to her brother’s death.
On the question of who qualifies as the rightful widow, the Traditional Council declined to rule, explaining that the matter is already before the court and will be decided through the legal process.
Daddy Lumba is celebrated as one of Ghana’s most influential Highlife musicians, with a music career spanning more than three decades.
