The General Jurisdiction 2 division of the High Court has granted bail to Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, in the sum of GH¢30 million, with two sureties to be justified.
The bail was granted on Tuesday, April 21 and announced by his lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, on his Facebook wall.
Abu Trica’s arrest stems from an indictment issued by U.S. authorities, which alleges his involvement in a sophisticated $8 million romance scam targeting elderly victims.
According to prosecutors, the scheme involved building online relationships with unsuspecting individuals, primarily senior citizens and manipulating them into transferring large sums of money under false pretences.
Investigators claim that the alleged network operated across multiple jurisdictions, using fake identities, emotional deception, and digital platforms to gain the trust of victims.
