Ghanaian visual artist Ibrahim Mahama has been awarded the 2026 Arnold Bode Prize in Kassel, one of Germany’s most respected honours in contemporary art and an award closely tied to the legacy of documenta.
The award, announced by his gallery White Cube, comes with a cash prize of €10,000 and places Mahama among a select group of artists whose work has made a strong impact on global artistic discourse.
The award recognises Mahama’s expansive artistic practice, which has consistently interrogated histories of labour, migration and global economies through installations and material interventions that are vast in scale and ambition.
The honour was awarded following a recommendation by the Board of Trustees and formal approval by the city’s magistrate.
