Celebrated veteran Ghanaian actress Grace Nortey has died at the age of 89.
Her death was announced by JoyNews journalist Kenneth Awotwe Darko, although details surrounding her passing were not immediately disclosed.
Grace Nortey was one of Ghana’s most respected figures in theatre, film and television, with a career spanning more than five decades.
She played several lead roles on Ghanaian television and became a familiar face to audiences through her work in drama and film, earning recognition as one of the veterans of Ghanaian theatre and drama.
Her extensive acting career included appearances in several notable productions, including Lost Hope, Dza Gbele, Matters of the Heart, Sekina, Expectations and Jewels.
She also featured in internationally acclaimed films such as Beasts of No Nation (2015), which starred Abraham Attah as Agu, as well as Ties That Bind (2011) and Sinking Sands (2011).
Other notable credits include Nana Akoto (1985), Escape to Love (1996) and The Other Side of the Rich (1992), among others.
Grace Nortey’s death marks the loss of a veteran who dedicated decades to Ghana’s creative industry and helped shape the country’s theatre, television and film landscape.
