Police Issue Statement on Viral Domestic Abuse Video Involving Nana Akua Addo

The Ghana Police Service has issued a statement on viral videos showing alleged domestic violence involving Rosemond Akua Adobea, popularly known as Nana Akua Addo, and her husband, Harold Norman.

According to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Rosemond Akua Adobea petitioned the Director-General of the CID on August 20, 2026, alleging that her husband had subjected her to physical, emotional and economic abuse.

The Police said preliminary investigations also revealed that a previous case involving the couple had been handled by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at the Lakeside and Ministries Police Stations in July 2026. Following the petition, Harold Norman was arrested at his residence on August 27 to assist with investigations.

The Police said a caution statement was subsequently obtained from him, after which he was granted police enquiry bail with two sureties on August 29, while investigations continued.

Harold Norman was expected to appear before court on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. However, according to the Police, his lawyer informed them that he had been admitted to hospital and was therefore unable to appear before the court as scheduled.

Investigators from DOVVSU have since visited the hospital to verify the claim and are monitoring the situation to ensure that he is arraigned immediately upon his discharge.

The CID further disclosed that it is working with the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to ensure that social welfare services are provided for the alleged victim and the children. The police noted that it remains committed to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that complaints brought before the Service are investigated professionally and fairly.
